Hello everyone. It's that time of year when we can feel the refreshing autumn breeze.
Today’s topic for Blog #52 is “From Zero to One.”
This isn’t a new topic, but we often hear the phrase “zero to one” in project proposals. Simply put, it means “creating something out of nothing,” but facing it head-on can be quite challenging. Bringing something into existence from nothing is no easy feat.
To give an example from our company, we’re currently applying for trademark registration for our service name, “Moon Frontier.” Naturally, before applying, we researched to ensure there were no similar names already registered. Of course, there are countless names already trademarked, so finding an unregistered name can be a real challenge. After much thought, I arrived at “Moon Frontier.” “Moon” symbolizes the moon, and “frontier” refers to unexplored territories. By combining these two words, I wanted to express the meaning of “ambitious and challenging.” After researching, we found there were no similar terms!
When I talk about “zero to one,” I often explain it as a mathematical concept—by adding, multiplying, or factoring, you can create “zero to one.” The example above illustrates this well. I simply added the well-known words “moon” and “frontier.”
When I create presentation materials, I first come up with three main topics (or issues). Then, I add, multiply, or factor these three themes to create a 15-page presentation.
It’s a very simple technique, so please give it a try.
